Irrigation Pump Station Delivery

This picture was taken back in February when the pump station was delivered. I enjoy new large new pieces of equipment on site – both the crane and irrigation pump station. It was a large milestone for the project. The local brother crane team was quite methodical.

There are several live oaks in the picture because we wanted to hide the pump station as much as possible. It is quite far from the irrigation lake. It worked out well as it is closer to the maintenance area and easier to monitor. We do have it hooked up electronically to our control system, but Don is a believer in using your eyes also.

I'll show how much further we hid the maintenance facility later.

"Strange Weather" by Tom Waits

I like Tom Waits song "Strange Weather" - while it isn't about the weather and our weather isn't really strange - just a little depressing lately. I'd never seen a January like we had this year – it rained every day. Golf rounds around Houston, were way off.

It had been great ever since, until this past week, every day. Nothing too big, just enough to keep from additional planting and getting around the site without making a mess.

What Clayton & Rob are looking towards...

The above image is looking in the opposite direction towards the 5th green. It was taken from the middle of the fairway - a stout poke from the tees. The shaping is all natural as it was one of several drainage collection points from the ranch, and had eroded over the years. We cleared some trees, added pipe for drainage and irrigation, spread some sand and cleaned up. It has always been and ideal spot on the course.

For perspective, when I stand just to the left of the green, I am unable to see the putting surface, and I don’t think Yao Ming would be able to either – it is deep and steep. The more you challenge the right side of the fairway the less the player has to contend with the severe shaping on the left.

Unfortunately for the player the right side challenge is Infierno bunker - more on him another day. Cheers

New Found Friends

Clayton our dozer operator and Robert our intern have become fast friends. It is especially helpful as it has gotten quite hot this month, and plating sand 10 hours a day quickly becomes tedious. It didn't take long for Clayton to break the young guy in, he now has a mouth like a sailor after only a few days. Clayton has been working on site intermittently since the beginning of the project. He has taken to heart the surrounding natural terrain characteristics and imbued them throughout our course.

They are standing left of the 5th green. The tee is far behind them on this long par 4.
